Welcome to the seventh grade! My name is Mrs. Wargo and I teach seventh grade Life Science. Science is more than just a discipline; it is a way of knowing, thinking and using that knowledge to explain the world around us. We have an exciting year ahead of us Our middle schools are about to embark on a new and exciting initiative. Our newly revised curriculum is aligned to meet Next Generation Science Standards. The NGSS promote a new way of teaching and learning that allows students to actively do and experience science in a deep, meaningful way, not just learn about it from a textbook or a lecture. The new standards also incorporate engineering and technology principles, and most importantly, the NGSS set high expectations for all students, not just those planning to pursue STEM careers. Classroom experiences for the students will include asking more questions, exploring and discussing possible solutions, investigating science concepts, using argumentation, and being fully active in the learning process. This approach mirrors real-world science practices and engages students deeply in the learning process.
Each student will be issued a textbook, which should covered and kept at home. There is a class set for when the text is needed during school.
If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to contact me. I'm looking forward to a busy, productive year!
